14 July 14 (Monday)

Dear children,

I'm sure Zane will be very glad to know that so many of you would like to attend his Awards Presentation Ceremony with him. Unfortunately, we're only allowed to have ten of you joining him. Here are the names of those whose ice-cream sticks were randomly picked and will be going to support Zane on 23 July at the Science Centre: Elijah, Christian, David, Zhi Zong, Ezra, Natalie, Thaneeisha, Brian, Seth and Dylan.

We started on the topic of length today. We read the book "How Big Is A Foot?" and learnt from the story that using standard units help us to measure length more clearly and accurately than using non-standard units. Remember how the King's foot was so much bigger than the Apprentice's foot? If only they had used centimetres or metres when discussing how big the Queen's bed should be! There would be no confusion then! ;)

We had some fun working in groups and using some ice-cream sticks to measure the lengths of a pencil, one side of our classroom's desk, and the width of our classroom door. We also used a metre ruler to test if it was shorter or longer than Isaac's height, the length of Ezra's arm, the width of Elizabeth's desk, the length of our whiteboard, and the heights of a table and a chair. Then, we learnt how to use shorter rulers to measure the lengths of our pencils and erasers in centimetres. It was indeed a "lengthy" day! ;)

Here are today's reminders:

1) Bring your art materials tomorrow if your art bag is not with me. We will be having two art lessons tomorrow to make up for last week's missed lesson.

2) The extended deadline for the Swimsafer Programme form is tomorrow. Submit it with payment if you would like to join the programme.

3) Remember to bring at least one good 15-cm ruler in your pencil case for the next few weeks.

Have a restful evening. See you tomorrow! :)
