31 Mar 14 (Monday)

Dear children,

We regrouped today and appointed our new class leaders. Here's the new seating arrangement and the list of leaders for this term:

Here is the cleanliness duty schedule for this term:

We talked about the 5 love languages today: Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, Acts of Service, and Physical Touch. You will know who your Secret Pal is tomorrow so that for the next 5 weeks, you can put into practice the 5 love languages and learn to be a good friend to your Secret Pal. In the meantime, you can start thinking about what you might want to do for him or her. If you plan to buy a gift for your Secret Pal, please remember that you should not be spending more than $1 on it. Your gift need not be expensive; it's the thought that counts. :)

During FTGP, we discussed how to grow our abilities today by working hard and working smart. We also talked about the story of the Donkey In The Well and the story of the Carrot, the Egg and the Coffee Bean.

Would you be like the donkey in the first story, shaking off the dirt and taking steps up the well one at a time?

Would you be like the coffee bean in the second story, letting the goodness in you make things around you better

I hope you would! :)

We finally got to start on division for math today. It was mainly revision of what most of you should have known from P1, but I could already see that quite a few of you have forgotten your multiplication. Revise your 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables again! You will really need them.

We will have our art lesson this week on Friday instead. I want to give you a little more time to work on your next art piece. 45-minute periods are a little too short for us.

Have a restful evening. See you tomorrow! :)

28 Mar 14 (Friday)

Dear children,

It's great to be back with you again.

Today marks the last day of service for the faithful and responsible leaders of 2/2. They have served the class well for the past 3 months and truly deserve the certificates of recognition given out to them today.

Today also marks the last day of our March competition. Here are the ice-cream stick scores after including the ice-cream sticks earned by those who submitted neat work for the Unit 4 Part C (yellow) booklet:

Cullen, Raeann and Vanessa from Emerald
Jonathan and Risa from Avengers
David, Phoebe and Shineta from Frozen
Thaneeisha, Zane and Natalie from Ninja-Fairy
Amelie from Diamond
Qistina and Lea from Rainbow

Ninja-Fairy is the Group of the Month for March! Congratulations, Ninja-Fairy! :)

We will regroup on Monday and appoint our new class leaders.

I'm very glad to know that over the past 2 days when I was not around, many of you continued to be very diligent and logged on to KooBits to master skills and earn Challenge Points.

With everyone's effort, we have kept our position as the top P2 class in Singapore. In fact, we are scoring better and better with each passing day! Let us continue to be diligent and persevere for the months ahead! :)

All of you have a very important task this weekend: Get your red Writing File ready for the school file check on Monday.

This is the sequence for the items to be put in the file, from front to back:

1) Bubble Trouble
(a) Bubble Trouble Writing Package [Make sure all corrections are completed.]
(b) Composition 1
(c) Rubrics (marks sheet) for Composition 1 [Make sure this is signed by your parents.]
(d) Corrections for Composition 1 [Make sure all re-corrections are completed.]
(e) Bubble-tastic Class Writing

(e) Recipe for Yummy Chicken Rice

Remember to show your parents your compositions and ask for signatures on:
1) The cover page of each writing package
2) The rubrics (marks sheet) for each composition

Bring the completed file on Monday.

Have a restful weekend with your family! :)

25 Mar 14 (Tuesday)

Dear children,

We discovered today that 2/2 is not only the top P2 class in SHPS on the KooBits Champion Class Leader Board. In one day, we have risen to become also the top P2 class among all the schools in Singapore that are on KooBits. That's really something to be proud of! It does not prove that 2/2 is the smartest class, but it does prove that many of you are very diligent problem sum solvers!

I hope you can keep up this diligent attitude all your life. Improving ourselves is a lot about being diligent and putting in effort. How much effort are you willing to put in to improve yourself? :)

We used poster paint to create mirror prints today during art lesson. I was impressed with many of your creative masterpieces, but what I was even happier about was that many of you have learnt to share what you have with those people who are in need.  Keep it up! :)

We will be starting on the topic of division tomorrow for math. If you are still not perfectly sure of your 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables, please put in effort to memorise them. You will really need to know all of them.

Here are the reminders for today:

1) If you have not passed your I-Read book to your friend, please do so by Silent Reading time tomorrow. Be considerate. If you pass your book one day late, that means your friend will have one less day to enjoy that book. That's not nice at all.

2) Check through all your math booklets for Unit 3 and Unit 4. If you have not submitted your re-corrections for marking, please do so tomorrow.

Have an enjoyable evening with your family! :)

24 Mar 14 (Monday)

Dear children,

We started off the day with the Moral Education test on responsibility. I'm looking forward to marking your papers to see what you've learnt about responsibility in Term 1. :)

We also had our Ultimate Multiplication Challenge today, with each of you being tested by your challenger on the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables. Most of you are already almost perfect at your times tables, but there are 7 of you who really need to work much harder. You know who you are. Knowing how to multiply is very, very important for the next topic of division. If you don't know your multiplication facts, you will not be able to divide! Grasp every chance you have to memorise all of them!

We'll be completing our last exercise in multiplication tomorrow, after which we will start on the topic of division.

Here's the number of ice-cream sticks each group earned today:

Emerald: 10
Avengers: 16
Frozen: 12
Sapphire: 13
Ninja-Fairy: 8
Gold: 14
Diamond: 14
Rainbow: 6

We also explored a little of KooBits today and discovered that many children have already started learning math skills and earning Challenge Points in the various leagues.

Our Isaac is the Hero of the Day!

Beginners League: I see Wei Xiang and David's names.

Novice League: Dawn is here!

Top Brain: Isaac is the second here!

2/2 is now the first on the P2 Champion Class Leader Board!

Keep it up, children! We began well, but will we be first all the way till 30 May? That takes everyone's effort! ;)

I will show you more features of KooBits tomorrow during your computer lesson with Mr Edwin. In the meantime, you can continue to explore it on your own.

Here are the reminders for today:

1) If you have not submitted your journal or your I-Read Book Review worksheet, please do so tomorrow.

2) Remember to bring your I-Read book tomorrow for the exchange.

3) Show your parents your Unit 4 blue booklet and green booklet and ask for a signature. If you still have corrections that are incomplete, please complete them and submit tomorrow.

4) If you still have your re-corrections in your Unit 3 blue, green and yellow booklets, please complete them and submit tomorrow for marking.

5) For art lesson tomorrow, bring the following:
-One piece of drawing paper
-Tubes of red, blue and yellow poster paint (if you have them)
-Enough newspapers to lay on your desk
-An apron, if you have one, to keep paint off your PE attire

Have a restful evening with your family! :)

23 Mar 14 (Sunday)

Dear children,

I hope you had a good break with your family and are now refreshed for a new term ahead! :)

As promised, here are some photographs of last Friday's birthday celebration taken by some of your parents:

The following children have done well for their Multiplication Part B (green) booklets:

Perfect Work
Seth from Sapphire
Ashley from Gold

Neat Work
Cullen and Raeann from Emerald
Risa from Avengers
David, Phoebe and Shineta from Frozen
Elijah, Richelle and Seth from Sapphire
Christian and Natalie from Ninja-Fairy
Wei Xiang from Gold
Amelie from Diamond
Qistina, Lea and Zhi Zong from Rainbow

I'm glad that 16 of you were very neat in your work in this booklet. That's half the class! Keep it up, 2/2! I hope to give out more ice-cream sticks for neat work in the coming weeks! :)

Here are the updated ice-cream stick scores for this month:

Ninja-Fairy is leading!

I have decided that you will only be put into your new groups after we complete this week. That means you have one last week to work hard together with your present group to win the Group of the Month Award for March. Once April begins, you will be placed in new groups. That also means that this week will be the last week of service for the present Group Leaders, English Leader, Math Leader, Monitor and Monitress who have served the class faithfully in Term 1.

Please complete all your holiday homework if you have not done so. Refer to my previous post if you need to.

Remember to be responsible children. Pack your own bags and bring everything that is needed. See you tomorrow! :)

Monday, March 17, 2014

17 Mar 14 (Monday)

Dear children,

Here's your holiday homework:

1) Write your third journal entry. The topic is "My March Holidays". Focus on writing about just one or two important events or activities and describe them well. Remember to leave a line after each line that you write. You must write at least five sentences. Do not write more than three pages. If you like, you can draw a picture and colour it after you have written your journal entry. Submit this on Monday when school resumes.

2) Complete your I-Read book review worksheet.

3) Start logging on to KooBits to explore on your own. Use your BC number as your username and password. You can complete as many challenges as you like there. Just for this week, the vendor has agreed to let even the 3 of you who did not subscribe log in for free. Try it out! I will show you more about KooBits when we meet again.

4) Prepare for the ultimate Multiplication Challenge on Monday. You will be tested by your challenger on the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times table.

5) Remind your parents about the health checkup next Monday. You will need to bring your Health Booklet.

I will put up the photographs of the March birthday celebration together with the ice-cream sticks update on Sunday. Check back again!

Please remember not to spend too much time on the computer. Spend the holidays  with your loved ones. Take good care of your health too. Have an enjoyable week ahead with your family! :)

----Update----

Wow! I just logged in to KooBits and saw a few of your names on the Top Brain Leader Board for P2:

Isaac (3rd)
David (5th)
Janine (11th)
Ezra (12th)

I read from the rules that the No.1 student from each level will get the grand prize of an Award Certificate and $40 worth of Book Prize, bursary or voucher. Work towards it! This season of "Top Brain" ends on 31 May, so you have about 2 months plus to get there!

I also went into the Maths League and saw a few names in the Beginners League:

Dawn (4th)
David (6th)
Wei Xiang (7th)

These children have already started to master skills, that's why their names are there. However, there are already 2 pupils from 2/4 and 2/7 who have mastered enough skills to move on to the Professional League! It's time to get started, 2/2! :)

Emerald: 8
Avengers: 6
Frozen: 8
Sapphire: 8
Ninja-Fairy: 12
Gold: 10
Diamond: 6
Rainbow: 9

Only 19 of you were able to answer every single multiplication question posed by your challenger today. That's really not too good. It's time to work harder! Tomorrow's Challenge will include the 3 times table in addition to the 2, 5 and 10 times table. Prepare by memorising these:

3 x 1 = 3

3 x 6 = 18
3 x 7 = 21
3 x 8 = 24
3 x 9 = 27
3 x 10 = 30

Most of you would have completed your Unit 4 Part A booklet today. I'm looking forward to marking the interesting multiplication questions you've set. :)

I'm also looking forward to marking the compositions you wrote today in class on your own. For the first time this year, you did your own planning and writing without any help from anyone else within one hour. We'll see how well you wrote. :)

I'm very glad to know that 29 of you subscribed to KooBits. If you have not subscribed but would like to, please let me know soon. You can start logging in with your account from tomorrow onwards to complete the different Challenges.

Here are the reminders for today:

1) If you have not submitted your Unit 4 Part A (blue) booklet, please submit it tomorrow.

2) If you have not let me mark the re-corrections in your signed Unit 3 Part B (green) and Part C (yellow) booklets, bring it tomorrow.

3) We will be doing filing tomorrow to close the term. If you have not submitted any of the following, bring it tomorrow:
-English Test Paper (signed)
-Math Test Paper (signed)
-Reading and Response scoresheet (signed)
-Composition with corrections completed (signed)

Have an enjoyable evening with your family! :)

12 Mar 14 (Wednesday)

Dear children,

It is very disappointing that some of you still do not bring the items I instruct you to bring. These are things that I mention in class and repeat on the blog. I do not wish to waste time talking about this in class again. Please be responsible.

Please also remember that you should never be telling me that you could not finish your homework because you had to complete your tuition work. That is not acceptable. Plan your time well. You can ask your parents for help if you need to.

The Pair Multiplication Challenge today seems a little more difficult for you. Only 23 of you were able to answer all the 2 and 5 times table questions posed by your challenger. Can we do better than that tomorrow? ;)

Tomorrow's Challenge will include the 2, 5 and 10 times table. Be sure to prepare yourself well by memorising these:

10 x 1 = 10
10 x 2 = 20
10 x 3 = 30
10 x 4 = 40
10 x 5 = 50
10 x 6 = 60
10 x 7 = 70
10 x 8 = 80
10 x 9 = 90
10 x 10 = 100

Look for patterns in the 10 times table that will help you memorise these in a few seconds.

We completed 24 pages of our Unit 4 Booklet A today. That's awesome! It proves how fast you can work when you are really focused. :)

Here's the ice-cream sticks update for today:

Emerald: 7
Avengers: 8
Frozen: 4
Sapphire: 6
Ninja-Fairy: 5
Gold: 12
Diamond: 4
Rainbow: 6

These are today's reminders:

1) Show your parents your Reading and Response Test scoresheet and ask for a signature. Bring it back tomorrow.

2) If you wish to subscribe to KooBits but have not done so, please do it tomorrow. Bring the form and the cash/cheque. If you have subscribed today, you will be able to log on to your KooBits account from Friday onwards.

3) Complete all re-corrections in your Unit 3 Part C (yellow) booklet and show it to your parents for a signature. Bring it back tomorrow.

4) If you still have re-corrections in your Unit 3 Part B (green) booklet, complete them. Bring it back tomorrow for me to mark. If all your corrections have been completed and checked by me, you may keep the booklet at home.

5) If you have not submitted your Buddy Programme Reflection Worksheet, bring it tomorrow.

Have a restful evening with your family! :)

11 Mar 14 (Tuesday)

Dear children,

The Pair Multiplication Challenge today was a great success! 25 of you were able to answer all the 2 times table questions posed to you by your challenger. That's awesome! :)

The 2 times table might have been easy for many of you, but what about the 5 times table? Tomorrow's Challenge will include that. Your challenger can pose you a total of 10 questions from the 2 times table and the 5 times table. The bigger the challenge, the greater the reward. ;)

These are what you need to memorise for tomorrow's Challenge besides the 2 times table:

5 x 1 = 5
5 x 2 = 10
5 x 3 = 15
5 x 4 = 20
5 x 5 = 25
5 x 6 = 30
5 x 7 = 35
5 x 8 = 40
5 x 9 = 45
5 x 10 = 50

I'm sure all of you are curious to know how well your group did for the Challenge today. Here's the ice-cream sticks update for today. It includes the ice-cream sticks for good behaviour too.

Emerald: 9
Avengers: 7
Frozen: 6
Sapphire: 5
Ninja-Fairy: 12
Gold: 7
Diamond: 9
Rainbow: 7

Here are some photographs of what you did for computer lesson with Mr Edwin:

I can see that many of you are looking forward to the March holidays after working hard for so many weeks. So am I! :)

Here are the reminders for today:

1) Complete your Buddy Programme Reflection Worksheet at home. Remember to complete both sides of the worksheet. Submit it tomorrow.

2) If you are subscribing to KooBits, bring the form and cash/cheque tomorrow to submit to the vendor. You can do so before school or during recess. Subscribing is not compulsory, but I strongly recommend it.

3) Bring your Math test paper and English test paper tomorrow to submit to me if you have not done so.

4) Bring your I-Read Book to pass to your friend tomorrow if you have not done so today. Do that before Silent Reading time begins in the hall.

5) If you did not submit your signed Unit 3 Part B (green) booklet today, bring it tomorrow and pass it to me.

Have a fruitful evening! :)

10 Mar 14 (Monday)

Dear children,

Here's what we have so far for the first week of March:

Ninja-Fairy is leading so far! We have one more week to go before school closes for the March holidays. There will be lots of opportunities this week for each one of you to earn ice-cream sticks for your group.

We wrote a letter to Charlie McBing today to thank him for the great feast he prepared.

We finished some challenging problems on models today and will be moving on to the topic of multiplication tomorrow.

Here are the reminders for today:

1) Keep your Term 2 Spelling List well. You will need it for next term's spelling.

2) Bring your art materials to complete your hanging mobile tomorrow if you did not finish it last week. You must complete and submit it tomorrow. If you have already submitted yours, you can help your friends with theirs tomorrow.

3) Show your Unit 3 Part B (green) booklet to your parents and ask them for a signature after they have looked through your work. If you still have re-corrections, complete them. Bring back the booklet tomorrow for me to check.

4) If you have not submitted your Spelling Book or your Journal, submit it tomorrow.

5) If you have not shown your parents the KooBits subscription form, please show it to them. I strongly recommend that you subscribe to it. You can bring the completed form and cheque (or cash) and pass it to me tomorrow for safekeeping if you are afraid you will forget to bring it on Wednesday.

6) Memorise your 2 times table. The Pair Multiplication Challenge starts tomorrow. Each of you has the chance to earn one ice-cream stick for your group in the daily 5-minute Challenge. Would you earn that ice-cream stick, or would you give it away to your opponent? ;)

These are what you need to memorise for tomorrow's challenge:

2 x 1 = 2
2 x 2 = 4
2 x 3 = 6
2 x 4 = 8
2 x 5 = 10
2 x 6 = 12
2 x 7 = 14
2 x 8 = 16
2 x 9 = 18
2 x 10 = 20

Have a fruitful evening tonight! :)

Here are the reminders for today:

1) Write your second journal entry over this weekend. The topic is "My Ambition". Remember to leave a line after each line that you write. You must write at least 5 sentences. Do not write more than 2 pages. If you like, you can draw a picture and colour it after you have written your journal entry. Submit this on Monday.

2) Pass the KooBits subscription form to your parents and ask them if they allow you to subscribe. The subscription is optional, but I strongly recommend it because it is so useful, fun, and affordable! :) Watch the video here to find out more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCfKD_2YnPk

3) Show your parents your English test paper and ask for a signature. Bring back your paper on Monday for me to check.

6 Mar 2014 (Thursday)

Dear children,

You must have enjoyed the performance by the ventriloquist this afternoon because you laughed so much! I managed to capture part of the performance on video for you. Here's the video on YouTube:

We completed our corrections for the English test paper today. I will be returning the papers tomorrow for you to bring home after I've marked the corrections.

We went through some of the story sums you did for homework yesterday before learning more about punctuation marks and past tense of words like "shake" and "read" and phrases like "look up". We also learnt to make sentences with "believed", "relieved", and "sigh of relief".

Most of you would already have completed your Reading and Response test. The last 4 children will be tested tomorrow.

Please remember to pass the Edusave form for enrichment programmes to your parents. You must submit it by tomorrow if you are paying by Edusave.

Have a restful evening with your family! :)

Wednesday, March 5, 2014

5 Mar 2014 (Wednesday)

Dear children,

I'm sure you enjoyed drawing cartoons in the hall today after learning the secret techniques from the guest artist. I didn't know such cute, ugly and cool cartoon characters could be drawn in such a short time! Be sure to share some of the cartoon-drawing secrets with your family when you have time. :)

We practised drawing different kinds of models today for two-step word problems before continuing with the Reading and Response test for 4 of you. Most of you are getting really good at model-drawing. Keep working at it!

Here are some reminders:
1) Pass the letter about the health screening to your parents.
2) Show your parents your math test paper and ask for a signature. Bring it back tomorrow for me to check.
3) Complete Exercise 2 of your green Part B math booklet. The 6 story sums should not take you more than 35 minutes. If you are still not very sure about model drawing for two-step word problems, refer to my slides here:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/jc1s3zcw2m01jap/C3Unit3_PartAActivity4_Answers.pdf

We'll be going through the last bit of your English test paper tomorrow so that you can bring back your paper on Friday.

Have a fruitful evening ahead! :)

Tuesday, March 4, 2014

4 Mar 2014 (Tuesday)

Dear children,

We began our day today talking about physical bullying, emotional bullying and about respecting other people's beliefs. I hope you are now very clear about how you are supposed to treat others.

Jonathan, Dawn, Ezra and Risa got their Group of the Month certificates and prizes from me. Congratulations, Avengers! I'm looking forward to see which would be the Group of the Month for March. ;)

We continued making your hanging mobiles during art lesson. I'm glad I had Natalie and a few others who went around to help those who had difficulty putting together their hanging mobiles.

If you have not finished your mobile, you have one last lesson next week to finish it up.

I managed to test 7 of you for Reading and Response during your computer lesson and I'm glad most of you did well. The remaining 17 of you will be tested either tomorrow or on Thursday.

You will be able to bring home your math test paper tomorrow since we have completed all the corrections during math lesson today.

Here are some reminders:
1) If you have not passed your I-Read book to your friend, please do so by Silent Reading time tomorrow.
2) I will be keeping track of your HARP record. Do visit the HARP mums and dads on Wednesdays (tomorrow) and Fridays. When you get a badge, come and show it to me.
3) You would have received your Spelling Book today. Complete your corrections, update your contents page and show your Book to your parents for a signature. Submit this on Friday.

Have a good evening! :)

Monday, March 3, 2014

3 Mar 2014 (Monday)

Dear children,

We went through another part of the English test paper today before beginning on the one-to-one Reading and Response Test. So far, 8 of you have been tested and most have done quite well. I look forward to testing another 8 of you tomorrow.

Before starting on 2-step word problems, we went through the corrections for model drawing for 1-step word problems. I have uploaded the slides I used for you to revise at home. Please click on this link to download the slides and look through them:

If you think you are still not too good with models for 1-step word problems, you can ask your parents to view the slides together with you. For each question, try to explain to them:
1) Why that type of model is suitable for the question
2) Why the model is drawn like that
3) How the model is labelled

Explaining something to others will help you to learn better. You can use the different colours in my models to help you.

Have a great evening with your family! :)

----Update at 11.30 p.m. -----------------------------------------------------------
For art lesson tomorrow, please remember to bring whatever you need to complete your hanging mobile. This would include:
1) The shapes you have drawn and/or coloured on drawing paper last week
2) Crayons / Oil pastel (if you have not finished colouring)
3) Scotchtape
4) Scissors
5) String
6) 2 straws or chopsticks
