31 October 14 (Friday)

Dear children,

I hope the Social Studies quiz today was manageable for you. I look forward to hearing good news from Mrs Jamal.

We went through the remaining corrections for the Maths SA2 paper today.

This is the ice-cream sticks update for this month:

Autumn is the Group of the Month for October! Congratulations, Autumn! :) The prizes and certificates will be given out on Monday.

I received some donations from Thaneeisha's family today. Here's a picture of all the donated items we've got:

That is quite a lot, isn't it? Imagine the number of people who will benefit from your little act of love. Every bit goes a long way.

Here's a video on caring and giving which you would have watched in the hall before:

These are today's reminders:

1) If you are participating in the art competition but have not submitted your art piece, please pass it to me by Monday, 12.15 p.m.

2) If you have not asked for a signature from your parents for your English and Maths SA2 papers, do so over the weekend. Submit them to me on Monday.

3) I am still waiting for a few children who have not submitted their corrections or re-corrections for their English booklets, Maths booklets, and compositions. If you are one of these children, submit your work on Monday.

Have a restful weekend with your family. See you on Monday! :)

Although we are always aiming to score as high as we can, I would like to remind you once again that your life is not just about your examination results. You are loved no matter how you did for your examinations. If you think that you did not do too well this time round, learn from your mistakes, pick yourself up, and keep working hard. There are many more challenges ahead waiting for you. Don't stop here. What matters most is that you give your best shot every single time. Don't give up. Keep going! :)

These are today's reminders:

1) Show your parents the English Examination marks that you have recorded in your Handbook. You should have written your marks for Oral, Listening Comprehension, Composition and Paper 2.

Have a restful evening. See you tomorrow! :)

28 October 14 (Tuesday)

Dear children,

We received the "Yes We CAN" award again for this semester because the school thinks we have one of the cleanest, most attractive and neatest classrooms in P2. Keep up the good work, P2/2 JOY! :)

I want to specially commend Elijah, Joel and Jonathan for faithfully arranging all the furniture neatly every evening before dismissal. They did this out of their own initiative. If you have not realised, these three boys have been doing this for many months whether or not the rest of you did your part. I have been watching.

You completed an art quiz today before starting to work on the laptops in small groups. Judging by the smiles on your faces, I am sure you enjoyed the online Learning Centre activities that Ms Kasthuree and Ms Rohani planned for you! You would have played some interesting games with your teammates to improve on your knowledge of subject-verb agreement and your typing skills. You would also have listened to a story and completed a maze with an alligator in it.

I was extremely impressed with the way you speedily formed your own groups of two and three without noise and without leaving anybody out. I was at first doubtful that you could do all that within my time limit and without my instructions, but your monitor, Jonathan, had so much faith in all of you that he was willing to risk his Early Recess Pass, his Laptop Access Pass and ten of his recesses. For your freedom to choose your own groups, he was willing to risk what he had. With your cooperation, he proved me wrong. I am very glad that I was wrong. :)

Here are some photographs and a video I took of you today as you went about the activities:

These are today's reminders:

1) Please bring along your art materials again tomorrow. We will spend time working on an art piece if I am not yet allowed to go through the examination papers with you. If you are participating in the "Moove Media Hails Young Kids" art competition but have not started work, you may spend the art periods tomorrow working on it. That means you will have to bring whatever materials you think you will need. I will buy the A2 paper for you.

2) More donations came in today from the families of Brian, Zhi Zong, Natalie, Ezra, Elizabeth and Lea. If you intend to donate too but have not brought the items to me, you have three more days left to do that.

Have a good rest. See you tomorrow! :)

27 October 14 (Monday)

Dear children,

Congratulations! You have completed your examinations for this year! If you have worked really hard and given your very best, give yourself a pat on your back! In a few days' time, you will see the fruit of your hard work. :)

Today, I received more donations from the families and friends of Risa, Richelle, Dylan, Vanessa, Jonathan and Ashley. There are so many items P2/2 JOY has donated that there would be no more walking space in the staffroom if I were to continue keeping them in there. They had to be shifted by a few teachers in three batches from the staffroom to a classroom store! The generosity shown by you and your families is amazing! I thank God for that, and my prayer is that giving will continue to be your way of life as you grow up.

We have indeed gathered a lot together. However, when I think about the number of people who are in need of these, the number of items does not seem so big anymore. If you would like to donate and show care to the poor in this way, you have four more days to do so. Every little contribution helps.

These are today's reminders:

1) Although your examinations have ended, it does not mean that your learning stops. There are still a few of you who have not submitted your past corrections and re-corrections to me. Make right what is wrong, and submit what you owed.

2) Your Social Studies quiz will be held on this Friday (31 October).

3) Please bring the following materials for art lesson tomorrow:
-Pencil
-Colour pencils
-A piece of drawing paper

4) If you are taking part in the "Moove Media Hails Young Kids" art competition I mentioned some time ago, please submit your artwork to me latest by this Friday.

See you tomorrow! :)

24 October 14 (Friday)

Dear children,

I was glad to hear that many of you found the Maths Examination today very easy. As I have said before, the paper would be very easy for those who put in hard work, but very difficult for those who did not. I am sure many of you worked very hard.

I hope you will work as hard or even harder for your Chinese Examination next Monday. No good results will come without hard work. You have conquered two out of three big examinations so far. Put in your best for the last one too. Press on! :)

I was very encouraged to receive more donations today from the families of Amelie, Dawn, and Zane. If you and your family would also like to care for the poor in this way, please remember that the deadline for bringing the items is next Friday, 31 October. Every little bit of contribution helps.

Here are three short videos I took of you when you were tested during music lesson today. I love your melodious singing! :)

Have a fruitful weekend with your family. See you on Monday!

23 October 14 (Thursday)

Dear children,

I was very glad to receive donations from the families of Zane, Elijah, Janine, Sheena, Brian and Seth today. I was told that a few of you actually used your own savings to buy the items so that you could give them to the poor. I must say I am very impressed and encouraged by your big hearts. This is a good start for your young lives. My prayer is that you will continue to remember the poor and give to them even as you grow up. God loves a cheerful giver. :)

You spent some time today completing what was left of your KooBits online homework before we went on to go through some of your weak areas. I am now confident that many of you will do very well for tomorrow's Maths Examination, provided that you remember what you have been taught and are not careless. Check, check, and check. During the examination, you are not allowed to sleep or waste any time.

Here's what you can earn for your group if you get...

80 to 83.5 marks: 20 ice-cream sticks
84 to 87.5 marks: 25 ice-cream sticks
88 to 91.5 marks: 30 ice-cream sticks
92 to 95.5 marks: 35 ice-cream sticks
96 to 99.5 marks: 40 ice-cream sticks
100 marks: 45 ice-cream sticks (Go for this!)

If you are intending to work on some final questions before your Math Examination tomorrow, I suggest that you try the following AskNLearn quizzes again:

"P2/2 Math Revision Quiz (22 Oct 2014)"
"P2 Math E-learning (17 October 2014)"
"P2 Math E-learning 16 October 2014"

If those are not enough for you, you can also try a new KooBits homework that I will be posting in a while. Its title will be "P2/2 Exam Revision (6)".

Please do not overwork yourself. The work above is not compulsory. You can decide how much you want to complete. Ask your parents to help you decide when you should be resting. They know you best. You should have a clear mind and be full of energy tomorrow when you start your paper at 1.30 p.m..

These are today's reminders:

1) Your Social Studies quiz will be held on next Friday (31 October).

2) Please bring the following materials for art lesson tomorrow:
-Pencil
-Colour pencils
-A piece of drawing paper

3) If you are taking part in the "Moove Media Hails Young Kids" art competition I mentioned some time ago, tomorrow is the first day that you can submit your artwork to Moove Media. According to Moove Media, the first 50 children to submit their artwork to them will receive a Goodie Bag worth $35.

Have a good rest and be refreshed for tomorrow's Maths Examination. See you tomorrow! :)

21 October 14 (Tuesday)

Dear children,

We went through what was left for the Math Examination Practice (2) today before starting work on some online questions I assigned you as "Homework" on the KooBits portal. So far, it seems that Seth and Thaneeisha are the only ones who have completed all the 122 practice questions.

Those questions are meant to help you prepare for your Maths Examination on Friday. If you have not completed all of them, please work on them at home. You should complete at least P2/2 Exam Revision (1), (2), (3) and (4) before we meet on Thursday. Of course, you can complete (5) if you like.

Those should not take you more than two and a half hours in all. You don't have to complete all the questions in one sitting. Please take a break after every practice to rest your eyes and brain. Your health is important!

You will have 30 minutes more on Thursday to complete any remaining questions. Then, we will zoom in on some common mistakes made by the class.

These are today's reminders:

1) I will be uploading one more short quiz on AskNLearn tomorrow noon. Complete it. We will go through some questions in it on Thursday.

2) If you would like to donate items to the poor living in the Kampong Glam area, please bring them latest by next Friday. I received a bag of donated items from Phoebe and her family today.

Time is precious. Spend it fruitfully. See you on Thursday! :)

20 October 14 (Monday)

Dear children,

I'm sure you did your best for the English Examination today.

Over the next few days, let's be very focused on mastering mathematics. My aim for every single one of you is full marks for the Maths Examination, because achieving full marks will really prove to you that you have mastered every single thing you need to know about mathematics at P2.

Every single person in P2/2 JOY is capable of achieving that perfect score, but a lot of hard work is needed. You also need to learn to correct your mistakes and not repeat them

The paper will be very easy for those who put in hard work, but very difficult for those who don't. I hope you will make full use of the time you are left with. Keep going! :)

Here are today's reminders:

1) My records show that a few of you have not completed all your e-learning tasks. It is not good that you were not responsible in completing the work given to you. If you are one of these children, complete them before we meet tomorrow

2) Continue to bring your Math Examination Practice (2) tomorrow so that we can finish up what we did not finish today.

3) If you would like to order the school magazine, please bring along the order form and money tomorrow. The staff from the General Office will be coming up to our classroom tomorrow at about 2.15 p.m. to collect them from you.

4) If you have not submitted the following, you must submit them tomorrow:
-Maths booklets with corrections that have not been marked
-Corrections for "The Growl" composition and other compositions
-Spelling book

5) Our art lesson this week will be held during the last 2 periods on Friday, so you do not need to bring any art materials tomorrow. We will spend more time tomorrow working on mathematics.

6) In addition to the contribution by Shineta's family, David and his family have also passed me a box of items to be donated to the poor living in the Kampong Glam area. If you and your family would also like to care for the poor in this way, simply bring one or more of the items below to school before the end of this month. Every little contribution helps. It is more blessed to give than to receive.

-Cup noodles
-Instant noodles
-Packs of beverage sachets (e.g. cereals, tea, coffee, Milo, etc.)
-Small boxes of detergent
-Canned lettuce or peanuts
-Japanese plaster (e.g. Salonpas)
-Small tins of sardines
-Bath soap
-Biscuits (No cream crackers, please)
-Face towels

See you tomorrow! :)

I have looked at the results of the children who have completed my Math e-learning quiz. If you did not score 15/15, please read the explanation for the questions you got wrong for. Learn from your mistakes and work on the quiz again. You must aim to score full marks for that!

These are today's announcements:

1) I have uploaded Luke's composition for the "The Growl", and Thaneeisha's compositions for "Bubble Trouble" and "Chicken Rice" to Dropbox. Click on this folder link to read them:

2) After looking at your performance for the English e-learning tasks, I see that some of you are still having weaknesses in some areas. I will post one more short English practice quiz on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. to help you with those areas when I am back in Singapore. Watch out for it.

3) Have plenty of rest on Sunday night so that you are well-prepared for your English Examination on Monday.

Have a good weekend with your family! :)

15 October 14 (Wednesday)

Dear children,

I just checked my AskNLearn records and noticed that 11 of you have not completed your e-learning tasks for today. If you are one of these children, please remember to complete them before you sleep tonight. There are three quizzes you should complete:

ENGLISH

  • "P2 English Elearning 15 October" uploaded by Ms Huang
  • "P2/2 English Revision Quiz (15 Oct 2014)" uploaded by me

MATH

  • "P2 Math E-learning 15 October" uploaded by Ms Khoa

I am very pleased with those of you who have obediently completed your e-learning and done them well. Keep it up! :)

If you did not do too well for your first try at a quiz, always remember that you can try it again after you have learnt from your mistakes. Some of the children who persevered to improve their scores for the quizzes are Natalie, Janine and Thaneeisha. Learn from them. Don't just try a quiz once and leave it at that if you did not do well. Learn from it and test yourself again!

I will be uploading another English quiz for tomorrow titled "P2/2 English Revision Quiz (16 Oct 2014)". Complete that in addition to what the other teachers will be posting for all the P2s.

All the best for your revision! You will soon see the results of your hard work. Keep going! :)

7) In November, our school's Boys' Brigade Company will be distributing donated items to some less fortunate citizens living in the Kampong Glam area. This is a chance for us to care for the poor in Singapore

So far, the only donations from our class are from Shineta and her family. They have donated 48 cans of peanuts and lettuce, 33 packets of instant noodles, and 36 sachets of Milo. If you and your family would also like to show care for the poor in this way, simply bring one or more of the items below to school before end October. You don't have to give a lot. Every little contribution helps to bless the less fortunate. The Bible tells us that it is more blessed to give than to receive.

-Cup noodles
-Instant noodles
-Packs of beverage sachets (e.g. cereals, tea, coffee, Milo, etc.)
-Small boxes of detergent
-Canned lettuce or peanuts
-Japanese plaster (e.g. Salonpas)

10 October 14 (Friday)

Dear children,

Because of the PSLE Marking Days next week, next Monday will be the only day in the week that we will be meeting face-to-face. We will go through the last bit of your "The Growl" booklet before discussing the English Examination Practice and Sections A and C of Math Examination Practice (2).

You will also receive from me the composition you wrote yesterday and your Spelling Book so that you can spend Tuesday to Friday preparing for your English Examination on 20 October, Monday. E-learning tasks will also be assigned to you for those 4 days.

These are your reminders for this weekend:

1) Pass the order form for the school magazine to your parents so that they can decide whether to order it.

2) Show your parents the composition that you received from me. Work on your corrections and ask for a signature on it. Submit your corrections to me on Monday when I meet you in the hall.

You are excused from this homework for this weekend only if you are one of the seven who have not yet received your composition from me (Seth, David, Jonathan, Isaac, Elizabeth, Sheena and Amelie).

3) Bring your Math Examination Practice (2) on Monday. You should already have shown it to your parents and asked for a signature.

4) If there are still corrections or re-corrections in any English or Math booklet that you have yet to submit to me for marking, submit them to me on Monday in the hall. As far as possible, I want to try to make sure that you have all your materials ready for revision. This is for your good. I can't help you if you refuse to submit them to me.

5) If you are interested to know the list of Super Spellers and those who scored 90 marks and above for the English Examination Practice, check this blog again after 8 p.m. on Saturday. I will update this post once I finish marking your spelling books and your English Examination Practice.

7 October 14 (Tuesday)

Dear children,

We spent this afternoon going through Section A of the previous Math Examination Practice and reviewing some length and money concepts. Then, you took a Health Education Test and a second Math Examination Practice.

I am still in the midst of marking your second Math Examination Practice. I have seen only a few high scores so far. Hopefully, there will be more later. :)

I hope to have time tomorrow to go through that with you so that you can bring it home as soon as possible. Whether or not we can do that will depend on how cooperative you are tomorrow. Let's see.

These are today's announcements and reminders:

1) Your Listening Comprehension Examination will be held this Thursday (9 October 2014). You would have received your Listening Comprehension Mock Exam Paper today. If there are still re-corrections needed for it, please complete them. Show it to your parents and ask for a signature. Bring it back tomorrow and submit it to me.

2) If there are still re-corrections in your Length Booklet C and Money Booklet C that you have not completed, complete them. Show the two booklets to your parents and ask for a signature on each one. Submit them to me tomorrow.

3) I have uploaded Raeann's composition for "The Best Pet" writing package to Dropbox to share with you. Luke will send me his when he has typed it out. Click on this folder link to find Raeann's story:

4) Pass to your parent the registration form for the Parenting Seminar. If they are interested to attend a session, help them to submit the form at Pavilion 2 (outside the PSG room) on one of the dates and times listed on the form.

5) You will be working on an English Examination Practice on Friday. We will spend tomorrow focusing on English and completing what we have left of the English booklets. In the meantime, spend your time reviewing the 9 booklets that you presently have and study your spelling lists for all 4 terms again. Look at your English test papers and try the past AskNLearn quizzes too.

6) If you had ordered the class photographs we took together last term, you would have received them today. Share them with your family! :)

7) I received some photographs of the Lower Primary Sports Day from Amelie's mummy over the weekend. I will share them here tomorrow when I have selected some.

See you tomorrow! :)
