3 April 2014 (Thursday)

Dear children,

Congratulations! We clinched the HARP Best Read Class Award! I hope you like the little prize that the Reading Mums painstakingly prepared for you to encourage you in your reading journey. Let's continue to be diligent readers and be enthusiastic about reading! :)

6 of you have indicated that you'd be interested in performing for the Talent Platform next Monday. I will hold a mini-audition tomorrow before deciding on the children who will represent our class. Be prepared! :)

We discovered during math lesson that quite a number of you did not understand G.I.T well. Many are making mistakes when writing your multiplication and division equations, so we spent quite some time on corrections and practising more examples. Refresh your memory again by clicking on this picture and thinking about these questions:

Answers:
Left:      4 x 10 = 40         40 ÷ 10 = 4
Right:   10 x 4 = 40         40 ÷ 10 = 4

We then moved on to learn to create our own division story sums by first looking at a few examples and breaking them down. We also discussed similar-sounding story sums which actually mean different things. Here's an example:

(a) "Mr Wong shared 30 cookies with 5 of his friends." How many people are sharing here?
(b) "Mr Wong gave 30 cookies to 5 of his friends and asked them to share the cookies equally." How many people are sharing here?

With that, we finished up the Part A booklet on division. We will move on to the Part B booklet tomorrow.

Please remember to bring your art materials tomorrow. If you don't know what I'm referring to, please refer to my post on Tuesday.

I'm looking forward to marking your Spelling Books to see how many Super Spellers we have this time. Have an awesome evening with your family! :)
