30 Jan 2014 (Thursday) - Chinese New Year Eve

Dear children,

I hope you enjoyed the Chinese New Year celebrations today! Here are the photographs we took in class:

I've looked through the scores for the "Math Man - Addition up to 100" game and I'm glad to announce that the winner is...

Isaac Yaw

Isaac managed to correctly solve 58 equations as he played at Level 10! Well done, Isaac! :)

Many of you had put in the effort to achieve really high scores too. Keep it up!

I've calculated the ice-cream stick scores for this month. Here are the scores:

The Group of the Month is Sapphire! The four members of Sapphire will each receive a small prize from me on Tuesday.

Which group will be the Group of the Month for February? :)

Have a blessed Lunar New Year with your family and a great time of bonding with your loved ones! See you back in school on Tuesday! :)

29 Jan 2014 (Wednesday)

Dear children,

It was such a fruitful day with you today! :)

We completed three activities for math and learnt how to add 3-digit numbers to 3-digit numbers and subtract 3-digit numbers from 3-digit numbers. We also learnt to spot some mistakes in addition and subtraction. Math is a lot about being accurate. I've marked the booklets and I'm amazed to see that most of you submitted perfect work! Besides being accurate, math is also a lot about speed. I'm very glad that you were able to keep to the time limit I gave you when working on the math activities. Well done! That's what we can achieve when we are all focused.

We also managed to complete three exercises in our Chicken Rice booklets for English. Using the Magic Finger, we talked about some vocabulary used in the big book and then used these words to complete some sentences. We then did a grammar cloze exercise before learning to join some sentences with the conjunction 'when'.

When it was time for art, we completed a quiz to round up the previous unit. We then dived into a new unit -- "What a fun world!". We discussed different pictures made up of basic shapes like triangles, rectangles, circles, kites and squares. I'm sure you are all excited to create your own picture next week! :)

Here are some reminders:
1) If you have not played yesterday's math game, please play it soon and tell me your score by commenting on yesterday's blog entry. The deadline is 10 a.m. tomorrow.
2) You are encouraged to wear your ethnic attire tomorrow for the Chinese New Year celebrations if you have one. If not, come in your school uniform.

Have a restful evening with your family. See you for the Chinese New Year celebrations tomorrow! :)

28 Jan 2014 (Tuesday)

Dear children,

I'm sure you had a lot of fun during the PE periods before recess. Many of you won prizes from the games you played at the pavilion. I hope you thanked the P5 children for organising those game stalls for you. They had put in a lot of hard work and effort just to make it enjoyable for you.

It was a pleasure seeing you learn to create pictures on the computer using some basic shapes during Mr Edwin's lesson. Spend some time at home practising that if you have Microsoft PowerPoint installed on your home computer. Mr Edwin said that you would be doing that again next Tuesday. I'm looking forward to seeing your masterpieces! :)

We started math lesson today by recognising those children who handed in perfect booklets for Unit 1. These are:

Luke from Emerald,
Christian, Natalie and Zane from Ninja-Fairy,
Risa from Avengers,
David from Frozen,
Zhi Zong from Rainbow.

They each earned 5 ice-cream sticks for their own group. It seems like Ninja-Fairy is leading after today's addition. Which group will earn the Group of the Month prize? We will know on Thursday! :)

We began on Unit 2 for math today and completed an activity. "Addition and Subtraction within 1000" will be a very easy topic for you if you focus, put in effort, and be very careful. Your homework for today is to play the game "Math Man - Addition up to 100":

http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/mathgames/mathman/mathman_addition100.htm

Comment on this blog post after you have played to tell me your score honestly:
1) Equations Correct
2) Level Reached

Here are some reminders:
1) The vendors selling the National Geographic Explorer magazine will be in school tomorrow. If you want to subscribe to the magazine, please fill in the subscription form and bring it along tomorrow. If you are paying by Edusave, remember to bring the Edusave Form too. Pass the form(s) to the vendors directly.
2) Hand up your Spelling Book tomorrow if you did not hand it up today.
3) Hand up your Social Studies Activity Book if you have not handed it up today. Mrs Jamal wants it.
4) You do not need to wear your PE attire tomorrow since there will be no PE lesson. Please bring along the following items for art lesson if you have them: 1 piece of drawing paper, colour pencils, markers and crayons.

Have a fantabulous evening with your family! :)

27 Jan 2014 (Monday)

Dear children,

I wish more of you scored full marks for this round of spelling. We only have 4 Super Spellers this time:
Jenna from Diamond
Natalie from Ninja-Fairy
Elijah from Sapphire
Raeann from Emerald

9 of you scored 14 and a half marks. That's quite near, but still not there yet. Work hard, and be very careful when spelling words.

We talked about the life of Kelvin Loh today before you continued with your compositions from Friday. Most of you were able to complete the compositions before we moved on to reading our new big book, "Chicken Rice". If you did not manage to complete your composition in time, please work on it at home and submit it tomorrow.

Thanks to some of your generous parents, we had newly bought mats to sit on for our big book reading session today! Those mats were donated by Amelie's mummy, Zane's mummy, Ashley's mummy and David's mummy because they wanted you to have a more comfortable classroom to learn in. When you meet these mummies in school, be sure to thank them for the mats!

Here are the winners of the math games you played last week:
*Balloon Pop: Zane (188504 points)
*Fruit Shoot Odd & Even Level 1: Richelle (22 points)
*Fruit Shoot Odd & Even Level 2: Jenna (54 points)
*Fruit Shoot Odd & Even Level 3: Luke (104 points)
*Monkey Drive: Natalie (616 points)

I am sure these winners tried many times before getting such high scores. Determination and effort will make you better and better! These winners will be getting a small prize from me tomorrow. Congratulations! :)

Here are some reminders for today:
1) Work on your corrections in your spelling book and update the contents page. Show your spelling book to your parents for them to sign.
2) Pass the "Hong Bao Collection" letter to your parents. Think about whether you want to help the needy.
3) If you have not submitted your Social Studies Activity Book today, please submit it tomorrow. Mrs Jamal wants it.
4) For this week, the 2 PE periods on Wednesday will be exchanged with the 2 art periods tomorrow. That means you will have 3 periods of PE tomorrow (2 periods before recess and one period at the end of the day). There will be no PE on Wednesday. We'll have art lesson during the last 2 periods on Wednesday.
5) Thaneeisha and Phoebe, please remember to prepare for your make-up spelling test on Wednesday since you did not take the spelling test last Friday. There's still a chance to earn ice-cream sticks for your group! :)

Have a blessed evening with your family! :)

24 Jan 2014 (Friday)

Dear children,

I had a good time meeting some of your parents yesterday. I enjoyed listening to and speaking with them. Together, we are going to help you grow and glow. I hope you will put in your best effort to help us help you! :)

I'm really looking forward to marking your spelling books so that I can see how many of you had put in your best effort to become a Super Speller this time round.

We spent our time together yesterday focusing on a four-picture composition writing. We discussed about the characters, the setting, the problem and the resolution given in the four pictures. We also talked about some phrases and words we could use to write our story so that our readers would be interested in it.

After our class discussion, we began writing our own compositions. Some of you were not too confident yet, so I allowed you to work with a partner. Don't worry too much now if you think you are not a good writer yet. You will surely get better and better if you try your best each time you write!

Some were still not used to leaving a line between each line of your writing, while others forgot the two-fingers spacing before beginning a new paragraph. Anything new will surely be difficult for us. But remember: it is only going to get easier as you practise more.

Most of you managed to complete only two or three paragraphs yesterday. It is understandable that you took quite a bit of time since you are new to writing four-picture compositions. Don't worry. You will finish it up on Monday. You are not a fast writer yet, but you will be one soon.

As promised, here are your ice-cream stick scores for Week 1 to Week 3 of January:

Sapphire is leading by quite a bit so far. Will Sapphire win the Group of the Month prize for January? Or will another group do its best over the next four days to win the prize instead?

Have a good weekend ahead with your family! :)

23 Jan 2014 (Thursday)

Dear children,

We spent the first part of today going through the assessment items for the year. Some of you were quite worried about the tests and examinations. Keep in mind what I said: Tests and examinations are there for you to show everybody how capable you are! Pay attention and work hard every day. Then, you will be able to show everyone what you have learnt.

We also spent some time finishing up our corrections for the Bubble Trouble booklet and writing a class story about our bubble-blowing experience. I like it that many of you were very active in contributing to our class story "Bubble-tastic".

Here are some reminders:

1) Pass the Assessment Information package to your parents. This will tell them all the important dates and things they will need to know about this year's assessment.
2) There is spelling and dictation tomorrow! That's another chance to earn ice-cream sticks for your group!
3) Play the 3 math games on yesterday's blog post if you have not done so. Write a comment on that post to tell me your scores for each game.
4) If you are one of those who have not paid the bookshop for your English, Math and Chinese booklets, please remind your parents to do so soon.
5) Complete what Mrs Jamal has assigned you for homework in your Social Studies Activity Book. Submit it on Monday.
6) Remind your parents about the Parent-Teacher Meeting tomorrow at 7.30 p.m.

Have a great evening with your family! :)

22 Jan 2014 (Wednesday)

Dear children,

We spent our time today revising the first unit for math as we went through the remaining corrections in the Part B and Part C booklets. By now, you should be an expert on this unit. Your homework for math today is to go to the following 3 websites and play the 3 games:

Balloon Pop Math
(Click on "Level 1 1-1000")

Monkey Drive - Greatest or Least

Fruit Shoot Odd Even
http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/mathgames/earlymath/Fruit_shoot_odd_even.htm
(Play all 3 levels of this game.)

Tell me your high scores for each game by commenting on this blog post.

When you received your spelling books just now, I noticed quite a number of you telling your friends that you could have scored full marks. You are right! Many of you could have scored full marks if you had put in more effort to practise at home and had been more careful. Work on that. I look forward to this Friday's spelling. :)

Please be reminded to do three things about your spelling book:

1) Complete your corrections by referring to your spelling list. Remember to write each spelling correction item 3 times. If you made a mistake in dictation, write the whole paragraph once.
2) Update your contents page.
3) Show your spelling book to your parents so that they can sign on it.

Please help me to remind your parents about the Parent-Teacher Meeting at 7.30 p.m. this Friday. I look forward to meeting them.

Have a great evening with your family! :)

21 Jan 2014 (Tuesday)

Dear children,

I hope you had fun today creating your nameplates during art lesson. I am impressed by many of your beautiful masterpieces! The preparation at home must have helped. I was glad to see all of you concentrating on your art work.

However, when we went through corrections for the math booklets you did yesterday, quite a number of you were not focused. I expect better behaviour tomorrow. If we want to do things better and faster, you will need to cooperate with me.

Although we have not finished going through all the corrections, I want you to show the booklets to your parents and ask them to sign on them. You should have 4 booklets with you:

1) Math Unit 1 Part A (Blue)
2) Math Unit 1 Part B (Green)
3) Math Unit 1 Part C (Yellow)
4) Bubble Trouble (Blue)

These booklets must all be signed and brought back to school tomorrow.

As promised, here are the Super Spellers for the previous spelling:

Joshua from Diamond,
Ashley from Gold,
Thaneeisha and Zane from Ninja-Fairy,
Elijah and Janine from Sapphire,
Phoebe from Frozen,
Jonathan and Ezra from Avengers, and
Raeann from Emerald.

Many of you missed by half a mark! Don't give up though. Do your best for the upcoming spelling test! :)

Luke, Vanessa, Jenna and Dylan, please prepare for your make-up spelling. You still have a chance to earn ice-cream sticks for your group!

Please have a good rest tonight. See you tomorrow! :)

Monday, January 20, 2014

20 Jan 2014 (Monday)

Dear children,

I hope you had a good day challenging yourself with the math sums! Let me see later if any one manages to earn 5 ice-cream sticks for his or her group.

For art lesson tomorrow, please bring along your completed nameplate. Bring colour pencils and fine colour markers if you have them too.

See you tomorrow! :)

17 Jan 2014 (Friday)

Dear children,

We learnt to identify odd and even numbers today through reading "Even Steven and Odd Todd" and partnering multi-link cubes. If someone asks you whether the number 54768391029485021 is odd or even, what would you say? How would you explain? You should be able to answer this with confidence! ;)

We also spent quite some time going through the corrections for the past few activities that we did. I'm confident that by now, most of you should be able to independently use all the skills we have learnt in Unit 1. I'm happy to see that most of you are learning very well, but there are two big problems in some of your work -- untidiness and carelessness. When I was in Primary Two, I never liked doing corrections, so I always aimed to submit neat, perfect work. Aim for that too! :)

You are now very well prepared to complete the two other math booklets for this unit on your own. I will be away for a course on Monday, so your task is to complete those 2 booklets. I want you to separate your tables and work on the 2 booklets on your own. You are not allowed to ask someone else for help unless you were absent for this week's math lessons. The relief teacher will help me make sure that each one of you is doing your work by yourself. She will only guide the few of you who missed my lessons and could not catch up. I will be back on Monday evening to collect your math booklets from the relief teacher to mark. I hope to see excellent, neat work with no careless mistakes. Each perfect booklet will earn 5 ice-cream sticks for your group. :)

Here's the score update for this week:

Have an enjoyable weekend with your family! :)

16 Jan 2014 (Thursday)

Dear children,

Today was a very fruitful day because you were very cooperative. Besides completing an open-ended comprehension exercise together, we also learnt about ordering 3-digit numbers, making the greatest or smallest 3-digit number and recognising number patterns. It's great whenever all of you are focused because we get to do things quickly and learn more together! :)

Because you were focused, we managed to make time to blow bubbles! It was a wonderful sight to see all of you happily blowing bubbles together at the school field. I hope you enjoyed yourself. We'll be writing about our bubble-blowing experience in class tomorrow.

Here are a few reminders:
1) There is spelling and dictation tomorrow. Will we have 32 Super Spellers this time? :)
2) If you have not submitted your HARP form, IRead form or Spelling Book, please bring it tomorrow.
3) Please visit the toilet before you enter the hall every day. We don't want anyone to be standing up in the middle of devotion or a hall lesson because that is very disruptive. It is your responsibility to remember that.

Have a great evening with your family! :)

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

15 Jan 2014 (Wednesday)

Dear children,

It was a disappointing day today. I had expected every one of you to bring your signed spelling book back since I had given this instruction clearly yesterday. Unfortunately, a few of you were not responsible enough. I hope this will be the last time I have to remind you about being responsible children. Your spelling book belongs to you, so you should be the one to make sure that your book is signed and placed in your bag. If you are one of these children, please remember to bring your spelling book tomorrow.

We managed to complete a comprehension (MCQ) exercise and a phonics exercise today. We also went through the words in the spelling list. I hope that would help you to prepare for Friday's spelling test.

Here are some reminders for all of you:
1) Bring a bottle of bubble solution tomorrow.
2) Return the IRead Programme form to me.
3) Return the HARP form to me.

Please take good care of yourself. Quite a number of you have fallen ill. If you are not well, please let your parents know so that they can bring you to see a doctor. Do not come to school if you are unwell. Otherwise, you might spread the germs to your friends.

Please drink more water and have a good rest. Have an enjoyable evening with your family! :)

Tuesday, January 14, 2014

14 Jan 2014 (Tuesday)

Dear children,

I hope you enjoyed yourself today learning how to "balloon up" the letters in your name during art lesson. I like how focused all of you were during art lesson when we were discussing about the lines, dots and colours used to decorate the different words and letters.

Please complete your nameplate design at home and bring it back next Tuesday. I look forward to seeing your beautiful masterpiece. :)

You would have received your English spelling book today although we did not have English lesson. Please remember to finish up your corrections if you have any. After that, show your spelling book to your parents so that they can sign it. I want your spelling book back tomorrow.

The Super Spellers for last Friday's spelling each earned an ice-cream stick for their group. They are:

Luke from Emerald
Dawn, Ezra and Risa from Avengers
David, Joel, Phoebe and Shineta from Frozen
Elijah, Richelle and Seth from Sapphire
Thaneeisha, Zane and Natalie from Ninja-Fairy
Ashley, Brian and Wei Xiang from Gold
Isaac and Jenna from Diamond
Zhi Zong from Rainbow

Vanessa and Cullen, please remember your make-up spelling test during Thursday's recess. You still have a chance to earn an ice-cream stick for Emerald! ;)

20 of you scored full marks this time round. Will we see 32 Super Spellers for this Friday's spelling and dictation? :)

During math lesson, we learnt how to find a number that is 1 more, 1 less, 10 more, 10 less, 100 more or 100 less than a given 3-digit number. Try asking your parents to test you with the following questions if they are free:

-What's 1 more than 369?
-What's 1 less than 450?
-What's 10 more than 691?
-What's 10 less than 950?
-What's 100 more than 801?
-What's 100 less than 107?

If you are able to answer these questions correctly, that means you are learning well! :)

Here are two more reminders for the day:
1) Return the HARP Programme form to me tomorrow.
2) Prepare a bottle of bubble solution to bring on Thursday. We are going to blow bubbles on Thursday!

Have a blessed evening with your family! :)

Monday, January 13, 2014

13 Jan 2014 (Monday)

Dear children,

I did not have time for proper lessons with you today as I was attending a course organised by the Ministry of Education to learn how to be a more skillful teacher.

Although I only saw you for a while, I was glad to hear from the relief teachers that most of you were well-behaved throughout the day. Keep up the good behaviour! :)

I saw the pretty noticeboard decorations put up by some of you together with Mrs Gina Ow. Well done! If you have not put up your contribution, please do so tomorrow.

For your ICT lesson tomorrow, I have checked with Mr Edwin. You do not need to bring your headphones. For Art lesson, do bring along some coloured markers if you have them.

See you tomorrow. Have a good evening with your family! :)

Saturday, January 11, 2014

10 Jan 2014 (Friday)

Dear children,

It was a pleasant day with you yesterday. We learnt about the 's and the s', and we learnt to make good sentences with the words "finally", "suddenly" and "immediately". We will be doing some story writing next week, so these words you learnt can be put to use! Do you remember when to use which? :) Share with your parents when they're free!

We also did a vocabulary cloze together. The helping words were not too difficult for us, but it seems like a few of you used one helping word more than once. Please pay attention to my instruction.

We had our first spelling test of the year yesterday too. After looking through some spelling books, I'm glad that many of you were able to spell the numbers correctly. Don't forget how to spell them or you won't be able to fill in cheques in future! ;)

We also revised what we learnt about 3-digit numbers and place values yesterday and did our corrections. At the start, quite a number of you were not able to give the correct answers to questions like "What is the value of the digit '2' in 126?"  I'm glad by the end of the lesson every single one of you could. Keep testing yourself. When you're free, think of 3-digit numbers and ask yourself what the value of each digit in that number is.

Here are the ice-cream stick scores for this week.

Sapphire is leading! From now on, I will post the updated ice-cream sticks chart once a week. The highest scoring group for each month will get some small prizes from me. :) Keep up the good behaviour and work hard!

Remember that there's a formal attire check on Monday. Please make sure that:
-Your name tag is properly sewn above the school crest on your uniform.
-Your white shoes and socks do not have branded logos (Nike, Adidas etc) on them.
-Your white socks are not too short. They must at least cover your ankles.

Boys, please also make sure that:
-Your hair does not cover the ears or touch the collar of your shirt. It must be neatly combed.
-You do not use too much gel or wax.
-Your fringe does not touch your eyebrows.
-Your hair is not dyed.

As for the girls, please make sure that:
-Your skirt is not too short. It should be at least 4 fingers above your knees.
-Your hair is neat and tidy and not covering your face. If you have long hair, tie it up.
-Your fringe does not touch your eyebrows. If you have a long fringe, pin it up with plain black pins.
-Your hair accessories, if any, are in dark navy blue or black.
-Your hair is not dyed.
-If you wear ear studs, they are small.

Please ask your parents to check your attire before you turn up for school on Monday.

Have a great weekend with your family! :)

Thursday, January 9, 2014

9 Jan 2014 (Thursday)

Dear children,

As promised, here is the number of ice-cream sticks earned by each group so far.

The top scoring group for each day and the top scoring group so far have their scores in red. As of now, Sapphire is leading! Keep up the good behaviour, Sapphire! The rest of the groups are not far behind too. We'll see which group gets the most ice-cream sticks by the end of the week! ;)

I was upset today that a few of you did not follow my instructions and did not bring your Bubble Trouble booklet today. It is important that you bring what you're told to, otherwise you'll miss out on what the rest learn and do in class. Please remember this.

We managed to do quite a bit for English today. We learnt about singular and plural nouns (such as glass and glasses), the past tense for regular and irregular verbs (such as worked and swept), and comparative adjectives (such as lighter and prettier). I know all of you really enjoyed the part on comparative adjectives when we were comparing who's taller, darker and heavier. The groups that paid attention and could answer my questions were rewarded with ice-cream sticks! Always pay attention. You never know when you can earn ice-cream sticks for your group! :)

We managed to complete 2 math activities today too! Most of you have shown me that you were able to read and write 3-digit numbers and talk about these numbers in terms of place values. You were also able to show me the 3-digit numbers using the base-ten sets. That's great! Want to be sure that you remember what you have learnt? Get your parents to test you with the following questions:

1) In the number 756, how many hundreds, tens and ones are there?
Spell the number.

2) In the number 209,
-how many hundreds, tens and ones are there?
-what is the value of the digit '0'?
Spell the number.

3) In the number 940,
-how many hundreds, tens and ones are there?
-what is the value of the digit '0'?
Spell the number.

If you can answer your parents correctly, then you're all ready for tomorrow's math lesson!

Please be reminded of the following:
1) Remember to prepare for your spelling tomorrow.
2) There will be an attire check tomorrow as well as on Monday. Please make sure that you look neat and tidy. If you're not sure of the rules, refer to your Student Handbook.
3) CCA application forms must be submitted by tomorrow. If your forms are submitted after tomorrow, they will not be accepted.
4) If you have not submitted your Information Updating form and your student profile, please submit them tomorrow too.

Have an awesome evening with your family! :)

8 Jan 2014 (Wednesday)

Dear children,

Time with you today was short, but I'm glad we managed to finish quite a few things.

We talked about the story "Bubble Trouble" today - its characters, its setting, the problem and the resolution. I'm happy that many of you were very enthusiastic in our discussion. We also learnt about words with different number of syllables today and had some time to complete the first Vocabulary exercise in your Bubble Trouble booklet. Remember to ask your parents to look at the Unit Overview and sign at the bottom of that page. I'm sure they'd love to know what you'll be learning for the next week or so.

We didn't have time to move on to more challenging math today because we had some housekeeping to do. By now, all of you should know how to comment on this blog (try it by writing a comment below this post!)

Please be reminded of the following:
1) Show the student profile to your parents. If any information on it needs to be changed, make the changes in pen ink. Bring it back to me tomorrow.
2) Give your parents the Information Updating Form to fill in. I'll need it back tomorrow too.
3) Prepare for your spelling this Friday using the spelling list I just gave you today. Those are numbers you'll need to learn how to spell.
4) If you find that your bags are too heavy, please let your parents know. Always check your timetable and pack just what is needed for the day.

For those of you who are in Mrs Gina Ow's Chinese class, she would like to remind you about the following too:
1) Chinese spelling on every Wednesday. The first one on Chapter 1 will be on next Wednesday.
2) Chinese bi ji, Page 4, No. 1-8.

Have a good evening with your family! :)

Tuesday, January 7, 2014

7 Jan 2014 (Tuesday)

Dear children,

I hope it's been a good day for you at school! :)

Although we didn't have much time for Art today because we had to fetch your buddies for early recess, I was glad to see the effort that many of you put in in drawing your buddies. I like how all of you were concentrating and putting in effort to draw your best. Here are a few interesting ones:

Thanks to Ezra, Lea and Elizabeth who helped me during recess, we managed to finish labelling our pigeonholes. This is how it looks now. Use it wisely! Remember, no heavy items are allowed on it.

Here's our group points system for the year. As you can see from the picture, Gold is leading the class so far with 5 ice-cream sticks. Keep up the good behaviour, Gold! The rest of the groups are not far behind too. We'll see which group gets more ice-cream sticks tomorrow! ;)

I hope you enjoyed the big book "Bubble Trouble". Many of you were able to make good predictions and guesses even before I flipped the page. Keep it up! But remember -- raise your hand and wait for me to call on you before you speak. That's one of our class rules, right?

Math lesson started with more revision of your P1 work, but it seems like quite a few of you can't remember how to group 2-digit numbers in different combinations of tens and ones. If you know that you are not very good with this, ask your parents to revise with you.

What are the different ways we can group 67 into tens and ones?

67 = 6 tens 7 ones
67 = 5 tens 17 ones
67 = 4 tens 27 ones
67 = 3 tens 37 ones
67 = 2 tens 47 ones
67 = 1 ten 57 ones

What about 84? 43? If you are not sure, check with your parents! You'll need to be good at this before we move on to more challenging math.

You'll be using base-ten sets like these for tomorrow's math activity. Are you looking forward? :)

Have a blessed evening ahead with your family!

6 Jan 2014

Dear children,

I'm glad that we managed to come up with our group names today.

I was pleased to see many of you using your 5-cm voices in your group discussions, but there were also a few of you who needed some reminders not to speak too loudly. Let's try to do even better next time! :)

Here are the class rules that we came up with together, with every group contributing to the list:

1) Do not walk around during lesson time.
2) Help one another.
3) Do not litter.
4) No daydreaming.
5) No arguing with each other.
6) No vulgarities are to be used.
7) Raise your hand before asking questions.
8) No shouting in class; speak softly.
9) When one person speaks, the rest listens.

I've built you your pigeonholes, but we'll need to label the compartments with all your names (like what's shown below). We'll try to get that done tomorrow with your help. :)

I'm sure by now, all of you should be clear of the roles and responsibilities of a group leader and a monitor. Don't forget what you've learnt today even if you're not a group leader or monitor now. You might be one next term! ;)

I hope the multi-link cubes we used today helped you to revise what you've learnt in P1. You should be able to count those cubes, group them into tens and ones, and spell the 2-digit number. We'll do a little more of revision tomorrow, and then we'll start learning something new. Are you looking forward? :)

Here are some reminders from what's mentioned today:
1) You'll not need to wear your PE T-shirts for Health Education lessons this year.
2) Bring along your Health Education booklet on days with PE lessons.
3) Bring your thermometer tomorrow for the temperature-taking exercise.
4) Hand up your CCA Application Letters tomorrow if you've not done so today.
5) Pass the Parent Class Representative form to your parents for them to fill in. Submit it to me tomorrow.

Have a good evening ahead! :)

3 Jan 2014

Dear children,

I'm glad that we settled our seating arrangement and cleaning duties today. It is good to know that all of you are comfortable with where you're seated.

These are our class roles for this term:

Monitor: Isaac
Monitress: Elizabeth
Group Leaders: Qistina, Elijah, Amelie, David, Ashley, Jonathan, Thaneeisha and Cullen.

I was also very pleased to see all of you excited about playing your part for the class. Keep it up! We'll make the class a nice place together.

We didn't manage to decide on our group names, but we'll try to do that on Monday. You could help to think of a good one for your group over the weekend!

I also had an enjoyable time today sharing with you about my growing-up days and answering your many questions. I like how curious all of you are. We learn more when we are curious about things! :)

Please remember to refer to your Handbook for the instructions you copied down today:

1) Bring the English Red File to submit on Monday.
2) English Spelling and Dictation will be held on Fridays. The first one will be on 17 Jan. (That's 2 Fridays away, but you can start preparing for it if you like since you already have your Spelling List.)
3) Pass the CCA Form to your parents and ask them to read and fill it in. Bring the signed form back to me on Monday.

Do continue to visit this class blog every day.

Have an enjoyable weekend with your family! God bless! :)
